Who will be my child's coach?

Our rec teams are coached by volunteers (normally a parent of a player). Please consider volunteering! We are always in need of coaches, assistant coaches, and team managers. We offer incentives for those interested in coaching.

When does Rec Soccer take place?
There are two seasons currently offered: Spring and Fall. The Spring season runs from the end of February through the beginning of May. The Fall season runs from the beginning of September through mid-November.

When are the team practices?
The Coach is able to select their practice day(s) from available slots Monday-Thursday. Practices take place 1-2 days a week, and are approximately 1-1.5 hours per session (depending on the age group).

When and where are the games played?
For our 6U-8U ages, all games will be played at Bethesda Park. Depending on the number of registered players, ages 10U-19U may play against rec teams at other local soccer clubs for scheduled away games. This will involve some travel, but will be as minimal as possible. Most games will be played on Saturdays, but there may be the occasional weekday evening or Sunday game to ensure all games are played during the 8-week season.

Do the mini-kickers have games?
The goal of our mini-kickers program is to introduce the basics of soccer to 3-4 year olds through skills training. While they do not have a formal game schedule, there may be occasional scrimmages within the group.

Can I make requests for specific teammates and coaches?
We will consider special requests for a certain coach or teammate, but they cannot be guaranteed. Please note: the inability to play with a certain coach or teammate is not a valid reason for a refund request.

How are the teams formed?
Teams are formed from the general pool of registered players. All players will be placed on age-appropriate teams. Please note: our 6U and 8U teams are generally co-ed.

I have registered my child for your rec program. What are the next steps?
You will be contacted by your coach approximately 1 week prior to the first day of practice. In the meantime, be sure your child has the appropriate equipment for the season (an age-appropriate ball, cleats, and shin-guards). You may also be contacted to provide proof of age of your child.

What size ball does my child need?
4U-8U: Size 3 soccer ball
10U-12U: Size 4 soccer ball
14U-19U: Size 5 soccer ball

Do we have to purchase a uniform?
Yes! This is the first season of our two-year uniform cycle. As such, you are required to purchase the approximate $80 uniform kit directly from our new provider, Capelli. The kit may only be purchased after registration has been completed. The mandatory package includes: 2 games jerseys; 1 practice jersey; 1 pair of shorts; and 1 pair of socks. *The mini-kickers do NOT require a uniform. However, their fees include a shirt to be provided by the end of the season.

Additional information will be shared on the steps to order the uniform once available from the provider, and is available here:

We missed the registration window. What can we do now?
Should registration be closed, please contact us via email at steamersfutbolclub@gmail.com to determine if there are still spots available on a team or to be added to a wait-list. Should a spot be available, late fees will apply.

My child is ready for more of a challenge. Are there any options aside from Rec soccer?
If you feel your child is ready for more competitive play, we have other options as well! Please check out the Academy/Select area of our website for additional information about our competitive programs.
